As time went on, it became apparent that Dolly required more than just love and attention. The adorable canine appeared to be imploring Brogdon to accompany her down a trail away from the main road. “She began walking up the path toward the cell tower, and I trailed behind,” recalled Brogdon. “That’s when I stumbled upon several puppies emerging from behind a toppled log.”

Brogdon was taken aback as he watched each puppy joyfully emerge from their rudimentary shelter. Being a skilled dog rescuer, he was no stranger to coming across dogs in Oklahoma but discovering an enormous litter of 16 puppies came as a complete surprise even to him. “Although I’m used to seeing dogs all over the place in Oklahoma,” Brogdon explained, “witnessing such a large number all at once still managed to shock me.”

After some investigation, Brogdon discovered that the bunch of puppies actually came from three different litters. This meant that Dolly had been taking care of many puppies who were not her own. Despite not being their mother, she had managed to keep them safe and protected from harsh weather conditions. It’s hard to say how long they would have survived without her care, but it’s evident that Dolly was their savior in this situation.

Brogdon contacted a fellow rescuer for assistance and kept the company of the litter of puppies while waiting. It was disheartening for her to observe how sociable the puppies were, which indicated that they were previously cared for with love.

After successfully catching the puppies, Brоgdоn found herself facing another challenge – where to house 17 dogs when most rescue facilities were already full. To seek assistance, she turned to Facebook and went live to ask for help. Her plea was answered by Forever Yours Dog Rescue, 405 Animal Rescue, The Fuzzy Friends Fund, and Safe Haven Animal Rescue, who were able to provide shelter for all of the dogs.

The little canines will remain with their temporary families until they receive all their vaccinations and are ready to be adopted. As for Dolly, her rescuer hopes that this brave and loving dog finds a permanent home soon. Despite her affectionate nature, there has been more attention towards the puppies. The rescuer encourages potential adopters to consider adopting Dolly, who is just as deserving and eager to become part of a family despite being older.
