On Saturday night, Pau Gasol was honored for his own basketball prowess, but he didn’t forget to give a nod to his “brother,” Kobe Bryant.ư

Gasol was moved to the Lakers in February 2008 and spent a total of seven seasons playing alongside Bryant. During that time, he was named to three All-Star teams and won two championships with the team.

During his speech, Gasol called himself a “uncle” to Kobe and Vanessa’s girls, and Vanessa is also the godmother of Gasol’s only daughter, Elisabet.

The Spanish player also talked about how Bryant’s intensity shaped him.

Some people in the league were furious about the move, but it still went through, and that’s how I met the person who improved my game more than anyone else, Gasol said.
