The world’s longest living dog passed away 5 months before his 23rd birthday

Pebbles, the world’s oldest dog and a “once-in-a-lifetime companion”, has died aged 22 at her home in South Carolina.

Pebbles, the world’s oldest dog at 22, died on Monday at her home in South Carolina, just five months shy of her 23rd birthday.
According to the dog’s Instagram account, the 1.8kg toy fox terrier, who earned the title of oldest canine in May from Guinness World Records, died of natural causes after spending her final months alongside her owners Bobby and Julie Gregory, according to a press release.

“She was a once-in-a-lifetime companion and it was our honour to have had the blessing to have had her as a pet and family member,” wrote Julie, New York Post reports.

“She will be deeply missed.”

Pebbles was born March 28, 2000 in New York. She was awarded the Guinness title when her owners realised Pebbles was older than the previous record holder, TobyKeith – who was 21.

“Bobby was sitting on the couch and friends and family started texting and calling about a story they saw about a 21-year-old dog getting the record,” Julie told Guinness World Records.

“When I saw TobyKeith’s story all over the news, I applied.”

On her last birthday, Pebbles enjoyed a bubble bath and a plate of ribs.

“She impacted everyone she encountered,” Julie wrote.
