Scarleth “the spitting image of greyhound waste”, this is how the Association for the Protection of Animals Galgos del Sur has cataloged the story of a dog that was found defeated and with no desire to live, after being left in a mountain of garbage
The dog, who is estimated to be a few years old, was found in an unfortunate state with severe malnutrition, leshmaniosis and an injury to one of her legs.
“When a collaborator of Galgos del Sur found her, she was barely moving, she was tired, dehydrated, without strength, having been cold and very hungry, she ended up lying on a pile of garbage to let herself die”, explained the president of the protector of Animals Greyhounds of the South, Patricia Almansa.
The dog was taken to the Rabanales Veterinary Hospital in Córdoba, where she received assistance, and is currently improving in the Association’s shelter. Although everyone hopes that she can recover, her condition is quite delicate.
Scarleth has a calcaneal fracture in her hind leg and needs surgery.
In addition to exposing their case, the Association has taken the opportunity to denounce the serious reality that these puppies live. The greyhounds are bred and trained for hunting but once the hunting season ends or one of them suffers an injury, they are discarded.
“Scarleth was raised by a galguero, he used her for some hunting seasons, abandoning her and ripping out her microchip around December,” the Association wrote in a publication.
Scarleth was surely raised by a galguero from Bujalance (Córdoba) together with 8 to 10 other galguitos, since the galgas have litters between 8 and 12 galgos, some of her brothers would die due to the poor care of the galguero and the terrible hygienic conditions- toilets of the den where he was born”, they commented.
