Allard sowed his turnips in 2020 and spent a lot of time nourishing and taking care of them. When they were finally large enough, he weighed them and discovered that he had broken the previous world record not just once, but three times. Allard told a Canadian radio channel that he had been very serious and intense about growing his turnips for the past two years and had a feeling that he would break the record this year.

Meanwhile, the Guinness World Record for the longest turnip is held by Joe Atherton, who grew a turnip that was 13 feet 4 inches in length in Malvern, United Kingdom on September 28, 2019.
