Novak Djokovic’s talent on the tennis court has earned him 17 Grand Slam titles and a dinner date with Maria Sharapova. In an Instagram chat with Djokovic, Sharapova shared the moment when the two first met as young men and revealed that the Serbian bet on the outcome of his match with Masha, which Djokovic eventually won.
During one occasion when the pair faced each other in a doubles match at an event held at La Quinta, India Wells, Djokovic said that if he won, Sharapova would have to buy him dinner.

The ‘Russian Doll’ completely ignored the challenge until Djokovic won, and she realized it wasn’t a joke. “We ended up having dinner at a Japanese restaurant. It was funny, he took out what I thought was an old Kodak camera and asked the waiter to take a picture of us. It felt like I was being ‘set up’.”
Sharapova had a breakout year on the court, winning the prestigious Wimbledon title at just 17 years old in 2004. Meanwhile, Djokovic did not have the same early glory as his female counterpart until the Australian Open in 2008.
