In a remarkable tale of survival, a starving dog stranded on a rocky island in Greece was rescued after spotting a passerby on a kayak and recognizing he was the dog’s only chance for help.

The scruffy brown dog had somehow ended up completely alone on a harsh, uninhabited islet off the coast of Mykonos. With no food or fresh water source, he was severely malnourished and clearly struggling to survive.

When a local kayaker paddled by the island, the desperate pup started barking loudly and running along the shoreline trying to flag him down. As soon as the dog saw the man, he seemed to understand this lonely kayaker was his one opportunity to be saved.

Moved by the emaciated dog’s frantic efforts, the man got as close as he could to the rocky edge and coaxed the clearly starving animal close enough to grab him. After hauling the weak dog into his kayak, he paddled directly to get him medical attention and food.

The kayaker then posted the dog’s rescue story on social media hoping to find the pup a permanent home. Dozens of people offered to adopt the resilient dog who against all odds maintained hope that someone would come along to save him.

Vets who have examined the dog believe he had been trapped on the uninhabited island for weeks with no method of escape before his fortunate rescue. This amazing dog’s unrelenting will to live and his instinct to recognize his one chance at being saved has inspired many with his story of perseverance.
