Anthony Davis Wants To See Lakers Get Healthy Before Assessing Where They’re At

Even though they are 11-8 through 19 games, the Los Angeles Lakers have been on the receiving end of several blowouts, adding to the season’s roller coaster.

The fact that they started their current road trip with a nail-biter against the Cleveland Cavaliers exemplified it. After suffering one of the worst losses in team history at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers, they bounced back on Wednesday night to defeat the Detroit Pistons by a score of 26.

With Jarred Vanderbilt, Cam Reddish, Gabe Vincent, and Rui Hachimura among the key players who have lost substantial time with injuries, evaluating the Lakers’ roster has proven to be an especially daunting task. According to Spectrum SportsNet, that was Anthony Davis’s sentiment following the Pistons’ victory:

Oh no. Our lack of health is the reason. It seems like we’re managing to keep afloat by winning some games and losing some that we think we should win. We feel like we have room to improve after 20 games, though. A few games we lost, we might have won. Oh, we’re OK. Especially considering we aren’t entirely healthy with a few of our top players. This puts us in a good position, we think.

In the Lakers’ victory over the Pistons, Reddish returned to the court after sitting out due to a groin ailment. Davis is looking forward to seeing the squad in full force once Vanderbilt, Vincent, and Hachimura return:

Having Cam back out there is a huge boost, as is just having more bodies. The addition of another body on the court allows us to assess our team and its potential, especially with Vando’s return on the horizon. Our team will be stronger with Gabe returning, so for now we’re just trying to get by till everyone is healthy again.

After a season full of highs and lows, fans tend to get emotional when their team wins or loses. Nevertheless, Davis stressed the need of maintaining composure with his teammates, acknowledging that the season is lengthy:

“Maintain a steady level of excellence. You shouldn’t treat your victory like it’s the NBA Finals. Also, don’t beаt yourself up over a loss; it’s not like you lost the NBA Finals Game 7. You need to get everything in order in the next several days, if not the day after that, so keep your head down. As a result, you should always maintain a steady center of gravity.

In his own play, Davis has been all over the place, but he’s been much better as of late, and he was a major reason the Lakers were able to dominate the Pistons.

The fact that he and LeBron James have been mostly healthy thus far is crucial for the Lakers’ future success, regardless of the lineup they choose to use.

Davis is overjoyed to play in the quarterfinals of the In-Season Tournament on home court. The Lakers will face the Phoenix Suns in the quarterfinals of the In-Season Tournament on December 5, which is a major game despite the fact that it is still early in the regular season.

After finishing 4-0 in group play, the Lakers will get to play that game at home in front of their fans, which is something that Davis is quite pleased about.
