Domantas Sabonis has been one of the NBA’s most consistent players throughout his career, as evidenced by his 44th consecutive double-double against the Los Angeles Lakers, which was not the only streak he extended on Wednesday night.
Sabonis increased his head-to-head record against All-Star big man Anthony Davis to 9-0 after assisting the Sacramento Kings to a stunning victory over the Lakers. They have played for many teams during their careers, meeting at each stage, with Domas dominating the matchup.
Domantas Sabonis owns Anthony Davis. According to StatMuse, Sabonis has averaged 12.9 points in their nine meetings while shooting a highly efficient 61 percent from the field, as well as 9.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and a steal.
Sabonis improved on those figures Wednesday night, producing a monstrous triple-double against Davis and the Lakers in Sacaramento’s 130-120 win, with 16 points (7-of-13 from the field), 20 rebounds and 12 assists.
However, Davis hasn’t gone down without a fight in the nine occasions they’ve met. AD is averaging 23.2 points, 47 percent of his field goals, 10.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.1 blocks, and a steal per game in his matchup with Sabonis.
Personal history aside, Sabonis and the Kings’ victory over Davis and the Lakers on Wednesday was a huge win, especially given how tight the lower half of the Western Conference playoff situation is.
The Kings improve to 35-26 and retain seventh in the Western Conference, while the Lakers fall to 34-30, dropping below the Golden State Warriors for tenth place.
Sacramento trails the Phoenix Suns (36-26) by half a game for the conference’s sixth and final assured playoff place, while Los Angeles is now three games down after losing to the Kings.
