LeBron James Reveals He’s Switching Back to No.23 Jersey

NBA GOAT LeBron James announces he is changing his uniform from No. 6 back to No. 23 next season ‘out of respect’ for the late Bill Russell

In memory of the late, great Bill Russell, LeBron James has chosen to change his uniform from No. 6 back to No. 23 for the upcoming season.

Russell, who passed away in July 2022, donned No. 6 for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. When the NBA chose to retire the number across the league, LeBron was one of the active players allowed to continue wearing it.

LeBron must make his decision, Paul said to ESPN. Out of respect for Bill Russell, he “opted to.”

The NBA created history when it decided to retire the No. 6 throughout the league in Russell’s honor. However, the timing of the decision made it challenging for teams to resupply their stores with new numbers, especially for a player like LeBron.

No matter if you play, watch, or only participate in a portion of the game, I mҽan. We are all aware of what Bill Russell means to the NBA and, certainly, to the Boston Celtics off the court. And what he meant by being able to talk about uncomfortable subjects to Black people.

He started out wearing No. 23 with the Cleveland Cavaliers before switching to No. 6 for Team USA. He then picked up No. 6 again when he joined the Miami Heat because No. 23 had already been retired in Michael Jordan’s honor.

James switched back to No. 6 for his final three seasons with the Lakers after wearing No. 23 during his first two seasons in Los Angeles and his second tenure in Cleveland.

James has sported No. 23 for 13 of his 20 career seasons, and this fall will mark the start of a 14-season streak.
