To spotlight Black fashion designers during the 2024 NBA season, Stephen Curry has teamed up with Rakuten. This collaboration aims to bring greater visibility and recognition to these talented designers, celebrating their contributions to the fashion world.

The agreement will allow Curry, 35, to speak with designers that are part of the Black In Fashion Council. Additionally, he will showcase their companies and support their travels by wearing their outfits during tunnel treks. Savant Studios, Advisry, Des Pierrot, Head of State, and Pierre Blanc are among the labels with which Curry is cooperating.

In an interview with PEOPLE, the point guard for the Golden State Warriors expressed his enthusiasm for utilizing his celebrity status to promote the fashion designs of these artists.

It’s a fantastic approach to fostering diversity in an industry that is sorely lacking it, Curry tells PEOPLE separately. I may not have any formal training in design or fashion, but I do know how to find innovative ways to highlight exceptional skills. It’s going to be exciting for these designers to step onto a new platform.

A large number of the designers are complete strangers to me. Their background in the industry, the things that motivate them, and the story of their brand were all shared with me. What excites me most about working on this project with Paul Richards, Keith Herron, and Des Pierre is something I witnessed firsthand when we met in person,” Curry explains.

He continues: “You’ll be able to see me wear their looks on the tunnel walks and then you’ll be able to shop their looks through Rakuten’s services.”Designed by Pierre Blanc, Curry will unveil the partnership’s initial look during the Warriors’ tunnel walk on Oct. 24 before their opening night game against the Phoenix Suns.

Products from the look and the designers’ current collections will be available for purchase on Rakuten.com beginning October 25. You may expect new Curry looks to be added on a monthly basis when they are announced.

“With the platform I have I also have the blessings to extend reach across the world…and find creative ways to elevate people who need support and deserve support, resources and attention,” he adds.If asked to sum up his game day style in three terms, the four-time NBA champion would say “comfortable, casual and versatile.”

He talks about how last year’s Christmas Day game two-piece wool suit was his favorite outfit for a tunnel stroll. A pair of black Celine lace-up boots and a black turtleneck completed the ensemble.

“I need to be comfortable traveling and be able to get in and out of where I’m going,” he adds. “Then I usually wear stuff that I could wear to multiple different events, or venues, or for different reasons.”

From the court to his couch, Curry loves athleisure.

If I’m not planning on leaving the house that day, I’ll probably just wear a sweatshirt and be really casual. “You can find me in a hoodie pretty much any time of year,” he says.

“But then I can turn it up,” he says. Probably some of you have seen me in my rather strong and varied acting career. It has developed over time, and it’s entertaining because I enjoy being pulled in many different directions when it comes to fashion.
