Crowds observed the gigantic pinniped, thought to be known locally as “Henry,” as it made its way through the village and entered the single gas station.

The tranquility of a vacation town was shattered as a massive elephant seal made its way through the center.

In Point Lonsdale, approximately one and a half hours south of Melbourne, a seal emerged from the waters and terrified people.

Officials responded to the issue and escorted the seal as it traversed the city’s roads.

Locally known as Henry, the pinniped required a traffic stop to safely cross the road.

Afterwards, “Henry” allegedly stormed into the only petrol station in town and attempted to break another window.

According to scientists, this may have occurred because the seal became confused by its reflection and mistaken another seal for itself.

The public was instructed to maintain a distance of at least 30 metres from the seal, and at least 50 metres if they were carrying a dog.

Finally, the police were able to convince Henry to return to the ocean by having him lunge at an officer who was backing slowly towards the water.

Crowds gathered on the beach as Henry departed the town once more on the waves.

Elephant seals are the biggest pinnipeds, a classification that includes seals and walruses, and get their name from the unique trunk-like nose of the males.

They are quite massive, with bigger males weighing up to 5,000 kilograms and reaching a length of 6 meters.

They are also among the deepest diving animals, with a record dive of 2,388 meters. Nevertheless, the usual depth at which they dive to find food is between 300 and 600 meters.
