A very special chariot was found in a villa in the Civita Giuliana area, about 700 meters north of the Pompeii ruins. This is the famous ancient city of Italy that was buried under volcanic ash during the terrible eruption in 79 AD.

According to AFP quoting archaeologists, the chariot was almost in perfect condition with 4 wheels, made of iron, copper and tin.

Pompeii archaeological site director Massimo Osanna said this is the first time the team has excavated a chariot of this type at Pompeii.

Previous excavations have allowed to find vehicles for daily activities such as transportation and work, but not the luxury type used for special occasions.
“This is a wonderful discovery that will allow us to further our understanding of the ancient world,” said Director Osanna.

In an interview with NPR Radio, Professor Eric Poehler of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, was extremely excited by the new discovery.

“Many of the vehicles that I’ve studied before are similar to those that take children to the football field,” says Professor Poehler.

“Meanwhile, this is a real Lamborghini. It’s a truly “super luxury” car by old standards,” he explained.
