Recently, Mert took under his wing a fragile baby horse, merely two and a half months old, rescued from a nearby farm. Tragically, the baby horse’s mother had been sold, leaving the vulnerable foal behind. Bestowing the name Reyhan upon the young equine, Mert assumed the role of caretaker.
Regrettably, Reyhan suffered from blindness in one eye, with the other eye affording her a mere 20% of normal vision. Due to her tender age at the time of rescue, Mert arranged for the baby horse to receive nourishment from the milk of another mother horse from a separate farm, ensuring her proper development.
Mert’s farm teemed with a multitude of rescued dogs, and as Reyhan grew older, she assimilated into their canine camaraderie. Displaying endearing behavior, she would lovingly lick Mert’s bald head whenever she required attention. A unique and profound bond flourished between the horse and her caretaker, forging a remarkable connection.
Reyhan embraced her newfound life on the farm, fearlessly frolicking alongside her four-legged companions, even in her nearly sightless state. Mert chose not to ride her but instead accompanied her on foot. Astonishingly, Reyhan comprehended Mert’s every gesture without him uttering a single word.
Although Mert’s sanctuary already brimmed with an array of rescued animals, he yearned to welcome more into the safety of his haven. However, limited space posed a constraint, preventing him from extending his sanctuary’s reach further.
During her time at Mert’s farm, Reyhan found solace and friendship in a white horse and a donkey from a neighboring farm, forming an inseparable trio. Mert never ceased to be amazed by Reyhan’s uncanny ability to perceive his thoughts, fostering a deep sense of wonder and connection between them.
