Jrue Holiday snubs Lakers to complete blockbuster trade for Celtics

The Portland Trailblazers officially shipped veteran guard Jrue Holiday out after obtaining him in the Damian Lillard trade a few days ago. He will now play for the Lakers’ archrival, the Boston Celtics. There was speculation of Portland relocating him to a contender, and now he’s in Boston.

The Lakers were interested in getting Holiday, but they lacked Boston’s financial resources. They couldn’t also trade most of their best contracts until mid-December because they had just resigned the majority of the squad during free agency.

The Celtics gave Portland a great deal for Holiday, but it did weaken the Celtics’ depth a little. Los Angeles could never match this, but if Laker fans can take anything away from this deal, it’s that Boston gave up valuable assets to get Holiday, including a future unprotected choice.

Holiday was a key member of the Milwaukee Bucks’ championship run in 2021, but he now joins the Bucks’ main rival in the Eastern Conference. It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out over the course of the season, and thankfully for Holiday, he didn’t end up out of the Western Conference.

The Lakers can now move on and concentrate solely on the upcoming season. They have a very strong roster from top to bottom, and Holiday would have been a luxury for them rather than a need.

This summer, they assembled a title-contending group, and they should be one of the league’s finest teams. And, if we’re lucky, LA and Boston will play in the NBA Finals this season to break the tie for the most titles in NBA history.
