André Pflaum, 45, has captured the incredible moment of mate competition between lions in a nature reserve in South Africa.
The pride of a male lion named Jack is seriously damaged when his advances towards a lioness are thwarted by the enemy in a fierce battle.
Images taken by photographer André Pflaum show a male lion slowly approaching the female lion when he sees it from a distance. However, as soon as he got close, Jack was surrounded by other lions, brothers of the lioness, dragged into a tense fight.
The group began to attack the male lion, using the power of their jaws and fangs to threaten Jack. Luckily, after the fierce encounter, the male lion Jack was not injured.
André Pflaum said: “After witnessing the whole thing, I needed a minute to calm down, I was quite shocked. The female lion brothers seemed uncomfortable that their sister was interested in Jack. A lion The male attacked Jack from behind while Jack was dealing with another animal.”
Lions are one of the most dangerous animals in Africa, they have superior hunting abilities and are also ferocious animals, very easily agitated.
Despite his years of experience and many battles in the wild, André Pflaum confesses that he is often afraid of being around fearsome animals, who show aggression when fighting Jack.
André Pflaum said: “I sat in a car without a roof and was less than a meter away from an adult lion. The first time I was really scared.”
The defeat in this war caused Jack to suffer more psychological damage than physical. Some experienced wildlife people fear that Jack will not be strong enough to fight enemies or hunt for food. Its pride was severely damaged.
