The creature described has the characteristics of half a dog, half a hyena and has never been known locally before.
The mysterious creature was killed by shepherds after it attacked one of them as well as cattle. The problem, however, is that even experts cannot decide what the beast really is because it has been burned.
The bizarre creature was destroyed in the village of Oancea in eastern Romania after it attacked sheep, sheep, birds and domestic dogs. Its head is described as bearing a resemblance to a hyena, even with what looks like a mane.
“I don’t know what animal it is because I have never seen such a thing. It has no hair on its head, only a mane. This is not a dog. At first I thought it was a dog, but it has two rows of teeth,” said one shepherd.
Experts are also divided on the origin of the strange creature and cannot perform a more detailed examination because it has been burned.
Adrian Alexandru, director of the Galati County Hunters and Fishermen’s Association, said: ‘In all likelihood, it’s a hyena, an animal that lives in Africa. I think this animal came from somewhere in the Republic of Moldova, crossed the river Prut and settled near the sheep herd.”
However, biologist Madalin Serban, Director of the Galati Museum of Natural Sciences, disagrees with this view. Madalin Serban theorizes someone may have set up a secret zoo and the animal may have escaped from there.
