This special character is called KAWS Companion (roughly translated as KAWS Companion) – created by artist Brian Donnelly. Before KAWS, the legendary giant rubber duck also landed at Seokchon Lake in 2014.
With arms and legs spread out, face relaxed looking up at the sky, American artist Brian Donnelly’s latest giant work titled “KAWS companion” is an image of “absolute relaxation”. Starting today, July 19, this 92-foot (about 18-meter) long inflatable model will be floating like a giant creature relaxing on its back on the surface of Seokchon Seoul Lake.
This installation art work is both literally and figuratively the “biggest” project of this artist to date. Bearing the iconic image of KAWS itself (which often appears in street fashion activities), this giant model was released at Seokchon Lake, located in Songpa district, the Korean capital – which is also floated the world-famous rubber duck in 2014.
This project, officially titled “KAWS: HOLIDAY”, marks Donnelly’s latest work in Asia, where he has always been especially popular with the pop culture community. In May, he displayed two 26-foot-tall sculptures (featuring KAWS Companion and another iconic BFF character) at a shopping mall in the Chinese city of Changsha.
Previously, Donnelly also had a few famous projects such as the Companion balloon at the annual Thanksgiving parade of the Macy’s store chain in New York, or the 33-foot tall sculpture of the character BFF. covered in flowers for the Dior Homme brand at Paris Fashion Week.
