Comet’s wounds were some of the strangest and most life-threatening we had encountered. Both sides of his mouth were severely wounded, and the resulting open sores were infested with maggots. How this unfortunate incident happened remained a mystery to us. It was a sight that tugged at our heartstrings, and we could only imagine the excruciating pain Comet was enduring. With such painful injuries, eating was an impossibility for him.

Fortunately, kind-hearted neighbors noticed his suffering early enough. Had it not been for their timely intervention and our subsequent rescue, starvation would have compounded his already dire situation. Despite the horrific pain he was in, Comet’s gentle nature shone through. It was as if he understood that we were there to help him, making it easy for us to treat him, though the pain of his first treatments was palpable.

After painstakingly removing the maggots from his wounds, we noticed a marked change in Comet. Relief from the constant pain seemed to give him newfound courage. His appetite returned, and he savored his food, a positive sign that filled us with hope. We knew then that Comet was ready to bloom.

Initially, Comet was a bit withdrawn, his shyness understandable given his traumatic experience. But as his physical wounds healed, we started noticing a significant change in his demeanor. It was as if a comet of loving energy that had been dormant was now ready to shine brightly.
