First Lady Jill Biden and her husband brought Willow, a two-year-old tabby cat that once “disrupted” her speech, into the White House.
“Willow entered the White House with her favorite toys and treats, and had plenty of space to smell and explore,” Michael LaRosa, spokesman for US First Lady Jill Biden, said today.
Willow is a two-year-old tabby with gray and white fur and green eyes, from Pennsylvania. The name of this female cat is taken from Willow Grove, Mrs. Jill Biden’s hometown in Pennsylvania, USA.
The US First Lady announced in November 2020 that she and her husband would bring a cat to raise at the White House, but this has been delayed for more than a year.
LaRosa said Willow once impressed Jill Biden when she jumped on stage and “disrupted” her speech campaigning for her husband in Pennsylvania in 2020. The farm owner who owned Willow then realized the bond. between the cat and Jill Biden and knowing that it would belong to her.
The White House has not kept cats since former President George W. Bush ended his term. In addition to Willow, President Biden and his wife are raising Commander, a German shepherd, which was a birthday gift from his younger brother James Biden and his wife.
The US President and his wife previously brought into the White House two other German shepherds, Champ and Major. However, Major then began behaving aggressively and bit several American secret agents.
LaRosa said the Bidens consulted with dog trainers, animal behavior experts and veterinarians, then placed Major in a quieter environment with friends and family. Champ, Biden’s beloved dog, died of old age in June 2021.
