Children walk through the cat’s mouth to enter the classroom and can slide out from the tail.
Wolfartsweier kindergarten in Karlsruhe city, Baden-Württemberg, Germany is shaped like a giant white cat lying still in a space filled with plants. This school is often ranked among the most impressive designs in the world
According to HuffPost, the cat building, completed in 2011, is the product of French artist Tomi Ungerer and architect d’Ayla-Suzan Yöndel.
Not only simulating the cat’s head, the building’s body is designed to be soft and its limbs seem to be leaning forward. To enter the classroom, students walk through the cat’s mouth, seemingly exploring the inside of the animal’s body.
The space is large enough to be divided into many classrooms, coat and shoe storage, dining room, and kitchen. Inside the cat’s paw is a place for children to play.
The second floor of the building has two large circular windows, acting as cat eyes. The grass on the roof is assumed to be cat hair.
A slide is attached to the back part of the building, so children can get out through the cat’s “tail”.
This dream school can accommodate 100 students. Every small detail like cat whiskers is carefully cared for, to stimulate children’s imagination and creativity.
