As part of the group exhibition Beside the End of the World at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in Los Angeles, California, bizarre Creature by Nina Katchadourian is on display. The exhibition features five unique but identical pieces by Katchadourian, in addition to the works of two painters and two authors: Dana Johnson, Robin Coste Lewis, Beatriz Santiago Muoz, and Rosten Woo. From November 9, 2019 until February 24, 2020, it is on display.
The exhibition, curated by Clockshop in collaboration with The Huntington, draws inspiration from the 1516 work Utopia by Thomas More, which features a map of the legendary island in its opening pages. From this ancient map through 20th-century attempts in communal life, the concept of Utopia is examined, with a focus on groups dwelling on the periphery of civilization.
