A tiny kitten held onto the person who gave her a chance at a better life.
After hearing about a pint-sized kitten born with a cleft nose and mouth in need of critical care, Jacqueline DeAmor of Friends for Life Rescue Network immediately drove the four and half hour round trip to pick him up.
What Jacqueline found was a kitten smaller than the size of her palm and very vulnerable for her age. Despite the challenges though, she was determined to help the little one get through.
“Cleft nose babies often have other congenital defects so we will be monitoring for those as well,” she said.
After arriving home Bonsai, as she was named, was initially stable but then quickly took a downward spiral and had to be placed in intensive care.
“We believe she burped up formula in her sleep and accidentally aspirated. She ended up with pneumonia,” said Jacqueline.

Oxygen was quickly supplied to the tiny life form to help her breathe. “She slowly went from breathing heavily to calmly over the course of hours. Then, she started to hold her body stronger.”
“Finally, she showed interest in latching. We were able to stabilize her in an oxygen and incubator combo.”
Bonsai quickly bounced back from her setback and made it to one week of age to the cheers of rescue staff.
Not only was she wolfing down her meals she was quickly developing a love for hugs.
“She is by far the sweetest little baby. After her milkies, we do lots of cuddles as it seems to help her burp while being pet. She loves to groom my face and hold my face with her paws,” said Jacqueline.
Though she was small, Bonsai was loud, possessing a purr engine that could be switched on and off whenever the need required. Though it has to be said she was most loud when she was being hugged.
She was soon on all four paws exploring every nook and cranny she could.
She was often engaged in “supervising” her humans when they do chores.
When Bonsai was not snuggling purrito-style, she could be found in the arms of her human cuddling kitten-style.
All in all, she was a professional snuggler, if not an all-out love bug.
She was growing as fast as any kitten could, her already fluffy coat was only getting fluffier, finished by the cutest kitten mohawk.
Though growing fast she still has big paws to fill before she can find a forever home of her own.
For now, her foster family is enjoying all the kittenish hugs they can handle.
