While on holiday she spies a woman trying to feed a kitten on a Cyprus street, looking closer she sees the desperate shape the kitten is in.

I looked down, and I saw [a kitten] on the ground,” said  Daniella Järphag“ I got tears in my eyes as soon as I saw him.”

Daniella wasn’t prepared for rescuing a kitten on her Cyprus holiday in 2018, but Lukas needed help immediately.

His eyes were so badly infected it’s almost certain he would have died without immediate rescue.

That being the case, Daniella rushed Lukas to a vet for emergency treatment. Sadly, his eyes were in such a bad state they had to be removed. However, he would need to grow a little before he would be ready for surgery, so Daniella brought him to her hotel to medicate him, fighting infection and pain.

Prior to heading back to Sweden, Daniella worked alongside a local rescue to find Lukas a foster home in the hopes of bringing him back to Gothenburg. She soon found a potential home via feedback on Facebook.

Having grown stronger during his time in foster care, Lukas was ready for his flight to Sweden. And Daniella was ready and waiting to take him to his new home when he arrived, but sadly he was soon returned to her after his new owner found she was allergic to cats.

Quickly feeling that this was meant to be, Daniella realized she was would be his forever human.

Now that he had a home of his own Luka was ready for surgery to have his eyes removed. But the first vet recommended he be put down because he was blind. Not surprisingly, Daniella, despite being threatened with being charged for being cruel to an animal, refused this course of action, and found another vet willing to help Lukas.

Lukas sailed through surgery in September of 2018, and today his a happy, healthy cat who has adapted to life in his new home surprisingly well.

Just like any other cat his own age Lukas enjoys climbing his cat tree, playing with toys, and knowing where his fridge and pantry are at all times.

However, there are times when he mistimes his jumps onto the couch but gets back on all fours to try again until he succeeds.

And to help him get into his bed he has his own set of stairs.

Sometimes Lukas gets to go for walks on a leash to feel the wind in his fur.

Though he always takes the time to stop and sell the flowers.

One of Lukas’ best friends is Oskar the dog, his older brother.

They can often be found curled up somewhere, going for a walk, or sharing a treat.

Oskar is very gentle with Lukas, their love for each other plain fora all to see.

Lukas can sometimes be seen doing his best to stalk his canine friend. Always ready to pounce.

Another member of Lukas’s family is, Jellie, a larger dog who is also gentle with his feline brother.

Along with her two dogs, Daniella loves Lukas with all her heart.

“He is my little baby, and I love him so much,” she said. “I always talk about him, and I love to show pictures of him. He is my child,” she said.
