Odet was found 6 years ago in a desperate state, at the moment when she was trying to survive on the street with the last atoms of her strength… Unfortunately, he donated a car that left her paralyzed. Plus, this kitty was shot in the stomach with an air rifle! Since she literally dragged herself on the street due to all the injuries, her body developed wounds and was full of parasites, fleas and ticks.
At the very beginning, when the Cat Shelter Meow paws volunteers from Macedonia had just rescued her, she was afraid of everything. She was afraid of water, maybe because she was saved wet and petrified from the cold and those icy drops reminded her of that condition and the terrible period of her life. She was also afraid of human touch, maybe because she was beaten on the street.
“Dear Odette, it’s just a bad memory now. You are the queen in your kingdom. You are a superstar. You are a hero. Your fur is shiny and soft, your eyes are bright, you are asking to be petted and cared for now. Dear Odette, you are our first paralyzed baby, you show us that you are equal with others.”
Her life under the care of volunteers is simply beautiful. She has her favorite colorful blanket, which is her throne, she has delicious food, fresh water and good company. She loves it when they pick up a brush and start brushing her hair.
Odet can’t pee and poop on her own, so they empty her twice a day. Every day. She wouldn’t be able to survive if they didn’t do that : “We literally have her life in our hands, and we manage to do it right. She is grateful, we are happy”.
Well done for this kitty’s constant struggle and wonderful life!
She was perfectly fine until the end of January, when volunteers noticed blood in her stool during a nighttime cleanup. In the morning she was still bleeding and was immediately taken to the vet. Blood work, biochemistry, X-ray, everything was normal, but she was still bleeding. They give her fluids, vitamins, painkillers and stomach medicine.
After the examination, the veterinarian told them that he probably has cancer on the intestines , but that she would find out more after detailed examinations.
But Odet had other plans. In the evening they took her to their bed. She purred loudly and fell asleep, wrapped in a soft blanket. The next morning she stopped breathing in her sleep. Odette was 12 years old. She left quietly, peacefully, surrounded by her people, who loved her more than anything.
“This morning we lost our hero, our paralyzed beauty, our beloved Odet. She entered our lives 7 years ago and taught us the true meaning of the word will. The will to survive, the will to dominate, the will to play. Run free now queen, run fast and wait for us,” the volunteers wrote.
