The Manul cat, also known as Pallas’ cat, is a wild cat species found in Central Asia. They have unique features such as round pupils, short legs, and a flat-looking face with wide-set ears that give them funny expressions. Their scientific name Otocolobus means ‘ugly-eared,’ adding to their appearance of annoyance. Despite their fluffy appearance, they are similar in size and weight to domestic cats. These felines prefer living in high altitudes up to 15,000ft and thrive in cold climates. However, due to their poor running ability, they prefer hiding in crevasses under boulders instead of escaping danger. While their expressive faces may make them seem like exciting pets, their solitary and wild nature restricts them primarily to professional zoos due to their high mortality rate at low altitudes.
