If you’re familiar with the iconic musician Frank Zappa, who was also a known enthusiast of feline companions, then you likely caught on immediately.
We had a chat with Lisa Williams, the owner of Zappa the cat, who shared that Zappa isn’t the only feline she has had that resembles the famous alternative rock star. Lisa previously owned an Oriental Shorthair named Marceau, who was black and white with a mustache. Many people remarked on his resemblance to Frank Zappa, and he even earned the nickname “Zappa Cat”. Here’s a picture of Marceau.
It’s a heartbreaking fact that Marceau, at the tender age of 3, suffered from heart failure and departed for the rainbow bridge. Lisa, his owner, was crushed by the loss. However, not long after his passing, she came across a black and white kitten with a charming mustache that was being sold by a breeder in Russia.
She got in touch with the breeder and was informed that the pup was not up for grabs as he was being kept for breeding purposes.
Lisa persisted despite the initial resistance. She pleaded and pestered for several weeks until she finally convinced the owner to let her have the cat. Lisa fondly named him Zappa, in honor of her first cat with the same name, Marceau.
As the adorable Zappa made his way into her abode and affections, his striking good looks were immediately apparent.
However, according to Lisa, the differences between the two cats are quite evident beyond their shared mustached faces. “Zappa is a completely different personality,” Lisa says. Unlike Marceau, who enjoyed being picked up and cuddled, Zappa is not a fan of physical affection. Additionally, while Marceau was a chatty cat, Zappa tends to keep his thoughts to himself.
Nonetheless, he has a unique personality. Among all of Lisa’s felines, Zappa stands out as the most mischievous. “He’s fond of playing games such as hide-and-seek and tag with my little girl. He patiently waits outside her room every morning, eager to begin their playtime.”
Zappa has a passion for taking trips in his feline carriage or sometimes in Lisa’s mobile laundry basket. Whenever he spots it, he eagerly dashes towards it and never tires of roaming around the house.
Lisa lovingly refers to her cats as the members of her Oriental Shorthair Squad and even runs an Instagram account solely for sharing their mischievous behavior.
Zappa adores all of them, but Thatchy holds a special place in his heart. The two companions enjoy spending quality time in the company of their loved ones, snuggling up on their laps for a cozy evening.
According to Lisa’s statement to We Love Cats and Kittens, her cat, Zappa, has a peculiar obsession with stuffed animals. He becomes extremely excited at the sight of them and drags the largest ones into his cat room to destroy them. Lisa also mentioned that Zappa doesn’t care who the stuffed toy belongs to. He has even destroyed some of her children’s childhood stuffed animals, and he especially loves tearing apart the dog ones.
Oh, I forgot to mention that there are three adorable canines living in this home too! Zappa, the feline resident, keeps a vigilant eye on his furry companions. Although he gets along with them well, most of the time he prefers to stay out of their path.
Zappa, much like other Oriental Shorthairs, is incredibly sporty. Lisa has recently invested in a wheel for him to practice running on, and he thoroughly enjoys jumping over obstacles that Lisa’s daughter creates for him.
